How does a power track work? It is a rail fixed along a wall, counter or cabinet that carries power along its whole length, with adaptors that clip on wherever you need a socket. This guide walks through each part in turn: the rail, the adaptors, the lock, the load, the mounting options and the installation, using figures from our own product specifications.
A power track is a wired rail with power running along its length. Each socket is a separate adaptor that clips into the rail and twists to lock, so you can add, move or remove sockets by hand. An electrician connects the rail to your home wiring once, and everything you plug in shares the track’s total load.
The rail is the fixed part of the power track system. It is connected to your home wiring at one end terminal, and from there it carries power along its whole length. Any point on the rail can become a socket, which is what sets a track apart from a wall socket that serves one spot only. Our guide to power track vs socket compares the two in full.
Each socket on a track is an adaptor. You place it in the groove at the point you want, then twist it to lock it to the rail. Our UK adaptor is rated at 13A and takes one appliance, and our guide to power track adaptors explains which adaptors fit which tracks.
Our adaptor locks to the rail when it is switched on, and it stays locked in place until it is turned back to the off position. That keeps the adaptor steady on the rail while an appliance is running. To move it, switch it off, twist it free and slide it to its new spot.
One metre of our track supports up to 11 adaptors, and the total power draw of everything plugged in should stay within 8,000 watts. Before you plan a busy counter, add up the wattage printed on each appliance’s rating label, and give heavy appliances that run together their own track or wall socket.
In an HDB flat, our guide to HDB electrical loading shows how much your flat’s supply can take.
A surface track mounts straight onto the wall or counter, while a recessed track sits flush inside a cut-out that your carpenter prepares. Our SLIM surface track is 86mm wide and 19mm deep, and our Pro surface track is 88mm wide and 29mm deep, with room for HDMI, Ethernet and USB connectors along the rail.
Our guide to the Nexen eBar sets out every size, collection and finish in one place.
Beyond plug sockets, the track takes other adaptors. Our Smart USB Charger clips on like any adaptor and gives you a Type C port and a Type A port. Our Pro series can also carry HDMI, Ethernet and USB connectors, offered as Pro Integrations add-ons, so a desk or media wall runs power and data from one rail.
A qualified electrician connects the rail to your home wiring at the end terminal. When you buy from us, our own electrician and contractor install it for you. Installation is generally S$60 per point, and the exact figure is confirmed after a free site survey. After that, adding and moving adaptors is something you do yourself, by hand. Whichever track you choose, check that it carries the Safety Mark, which in Singapore must be affixed on controlled goods that have been tested and certified to the relevant safety standards.
Our power track range shows every series and finish, our guide to the best power track for your home sets out what to compare, and our page on power tracks in Singapore puts the collections side by side. Yes. Adaptors clip onto the rail and slide along it, so you can start with the adaptors you need today and add more when you buy new appliances or change your layout, all on the same track.
Yes. Our products are registered for the Safety Mark, under 220001-00 for the tracks and 220002-00 for the adaptors, and our tracks are certified to BS 5733, the British standard for general electrical accessories.
Our Pro track runs up to 3 metres in one length, which covers most counters, desks and consoles. For any other length, contact us directly and our consultants will advise on the best layout for your space.
Standard lengths take 3 to 5 working days to prepare. A Pro track finished in surface laminates to match your carpentry takes 7 to 10 working days, so plan it into your renovation timeline early.
