Smart Power Track: What It Does and How to Set It Up

A power track already lets you add and move sockets along a rail. A smart power track goes one step further: the lighting built into the track and the adaptors clipped onto it can be switched, scheduled and grouped from your phone or your voice assistant. This guide explains what each smart part does, how it connects to your home Wi-Fi, and where it is most useful at home. Every figure here comes from our product brochure and our setup guides.

Concise Answer Icon 512x512 1 - Smart Power Track: What It Does and How to Set It Up

A smart power track is a power track with app-controlled parts. In our range, that means LED lighting built into the track and Smart Adaptors you switch on and off, schedule and monitor through the Smart Life app on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with Google Home and Alexa able to control them by voice or routine.

How a Power Track Becomes Smart

The track itself carries power, so the smart features sit in two places. The first is lighting built into the track, controlled by a Wi-Fi controller. The second is the adaptor: a Smart Adaptor adds app control to whatever is plugged into it.

Our consultants can tell you which adaptors suit the track you have in mind, so you can plan lighting and smart sockets together.

Smart Lighting Built Into the Track

Our Pro Plus series combines the Pro track with smart lighting integration and works with Google Home, SmartLife and Alexa. It shares the Pro series’ 88mm by 29mm profile and its HDMI, Ethernet and dual-port USB connectors, and starts from S$183 for a 60cm track.

Our SLIM S Plus series brings smart lighting to the slimmer track, at 86mm by 19mm. Its built-in Wi-Fi controller connects on 2.4 GHz and runs on the Tuya Smart Life app. The light strip has 480 LEDs per metre and adjusts from 1800K warm white to 6000K daylight, so the same strip can give a soft glow in the evening and a bright work light during the day. SLIM S Plus starts from S$168 for a 50cm track.

Both tracks carry a 3-year warranty. On SLIM S Plus, the lighting controller and the light strip each carry 1 year.

Smart Adaptors: Control Any Socket From Your Phone

A Smart Adaptor turns the socket it sits in into a smart plug. Once it is paired with the Smart Life app, you can switch it on and off from your phone, set schedules that switch it on and off by day and time, and see the power consumption of the appliance plugged into it. Give each adaptor a name, such as “Desk Lamp” or “Coffee Machine”, so it is easy to find in the app.

Our 65W Smart Adaptor adds a USB-C port and a USB-A port, and the app switches each port separately. That suits a desk where a laptop and a phone charge side by side. Our article on power track socket adaptors explains how our adaptors work with the track.

Working With Google Home and Alexa

Once your Smart Life account is linked to Google Home, following Google’s guide to connecting smart home devices in the Google Home app, or to Amazon Alexa, your Smart Adaptors appear as devices in those apps. You can then switch them by voice, or add them to routines. Our setup guide uses a “Leaving Home” routine in Google Home that switches a Smart Adaptor off as you go out, and an “I am Home” routine in Alexa that switches devices on when you say the phrase.

Routines are where a smart power track saves the most effort, because one phrase or one tap handles every adaptor in the routine at once.

Setting Up a Smart Adaptor

Our FAQ page links the full Smart Adaptor setup guide, with screenshots for every step. In short, download the Smart Life app from Google Play or the Apple App Store, sign up for an account and connect your phone to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Switch the Smart Adaptor on, and its light blinks to show it is ready to pair.

In the app, tap “Add Device”, then “Add” when the adaptor appears, and enter your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi password. Rename the adaptor, then set any schedules you want.

To reset an adaptor and pair it again, switch it on and off 3 times in a row. It returns to blinking mode, ready to reconnect.

Where a Smart Power Track Fits at Home

A study desk is a natural first place: a Smart Adaptor on the monitor and desk lamp, a 65W Smart Adaptor for the laptop, and a schedule that switches the desk off at night. In a living room, the built-in lighting of a Pro Plus or SLIM S Plus track gives a soft light along the television console, and a “Leaving Home” routine switches the console off with one tap.

In a kitchen, a schedule on the coffee machine has it ready when you wake up, and the power reading shows how much each appliance uses. For more smart wiring around the home, our article on power tracks for motorised curtains covers powering motorised curtains.
