Wall Power Track: Where It Fits and How to Plan One

A wall power track is a power rail fixed along a wall, with adaptors that clip on wherever a socket is needed. It suits TV walls, feature walls and the wall above a desk, where devices change over the years and a row of fixed sockets would fill the wall. This guide covers where it fits, surface or recessed fitting, the series and finishes, load and installation, using figures from our own product specifications.

A wall power track runs along a wall and takes clip-on adaptors anywhere on its length, so each device gets a socket right where it sits. Fit it on the surface of a finished wall, or recessed flush into a cut-out during renovation, and plan the total load before adding heavy appliances.

What a Wall Power Track Is

The track is a rail connected to your home wiring at one end terminal, and it carries power along its whole length. On a wall, that means one clean line replaces a cluster of faceplates. Each socket is an adaptor that twists to lock onto the rail, so the layout can follow your furniture.

Wall Power Track Behind a TV and Media Console

A TV wall gathers the screen, a soundbar, a router, a games console and a streaming box in one place. A track running along the wall just above the console gives each device its own adaptor, so cables drop straight down behind the furniture. When the console changes, the adaptors move with it along the rail.

Surface or Recessed: Fitting a Wall Power Track

A surface track mounts straight onto a finished wall, which suits homes already lived in. Our SLIM surface track is 86mm wide and 19mm deep, and our Pro surface track is 88mm wide and 29mm deep. A recessed track sits flush inside a cut-out, which your carpenter prepares during renovation: 71mm wide and 25mm deep for SLIM, and 71mm wide and 35mm deep for Pro. Our guide to surface vs recessed power tracks compares the two in full.

Choosing a Series and Finish for a Feature Wall

On a feature wall, the track is part of the design. Our standard colours include Royal White, Midnight Black and Grey, and our Pro track can also be finished in surface laminates to match your carpentry. Match the track colour to the wall, or pick a contrast colour to make the line part of the feature.

For the full range of finishes, our guide to the Nexen eBar covers the Arise, Luxe and Terra-Arise collections.

Power and Data on One Rail

A wall above a desk or behind a TV often needs data as well as power. Our Pro series can carry HDMI, Ethernet and USB connectors along the rail, offered as Pro Integrations add-ons, so one track serves the screen, the network and the chargers. Our Smart USB Charger clips on like any adaptor and gives you a Type C port and a Type A port for phones and tablets.

For a desk against the wall, our guide on how to organise your study table covers the layout below the track.

Planning the Load on a Wall Power Track

Each of our UK adaptors is rated at 13A and takes one appliance, one metre of our track supports up to 11 adaptors, and the total power draw of everything plugged in should stay within 8,000 watts. A TV wall usually sits well within that. For heavier appliances, check your flat’s supply too: our guide to HDB electrical loading explains the 30-amp and 40-amp limits.

Installing a Wall Power Track

When you buy from us, our own electrician and contractor install the track and connect it at the end terminal. Installation is generally S$60 per point, and the exact figure is confirmed after a free site survey. Our power track price guide shows how the track, the adaptors and the installation add up.

Whichever track you choose, check that it carries the Safety Mark, which in Singapore must be affixed on controlled goods that have been tested and certified to the relevant safety standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nexen Power Track SG FAQ Frequently Asked Questions - Wall Power Track: Where It Fits and How to Plan One

How long does a wall track take to prepare?

Standard lengths take 3 to 5 working days. A laminated Pro track takes 7 to 10 working days, so order it early in your renovation, while the carpenter is still building the wall.

Can I move the TV later and keep the same track?

Yes. The adaptors slide along the rail and twist to lock, so when the TV or console moves along the wall, you move the adaptors by hand to the new spot on the same track.

What is the longest wall track available?

Our Pro track runs up to 3 metres in one length, which covers most TV walls and desks. For any other length, contact us directly and our consultants will advise on the best layout for your wall.

Can my own contractor install a wall track?

Yes. Your own interior designer or contractor can install it, as long as it is installed properly. We provide the measurements and specifications for surface and recessed tracks so they can plan the wall correctly.
